Living Fearlessly

We see in the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30) three different servants. One was given 5 talents, another was given 2, and the last servant was given one talent according to their ability. The one who was given the 5 talents, and the one who was given the 2, reinvested what was given to them. As a result they both doubled their inheritance. However, the servant who was given the one talent, buried it in the ground because he was afraid. He was afraid of losing what little that he had.

When their master (a type of Christ) came back in this parable, he said “Well done, you good and faithful servant” to the ones who doubled their inheritance. But to the one who buried his talent in the ground out of fear, the Lord actually rebuked him. So often people of God are hindered from what God has called them to do because of fear. A fear of man. Maybe a spirit of fear. Fear or intimidation of one’s peers. This is not how God intends for us to live.

In fact, 2nd Timothy 1:7 says “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” When God has invested into our lives, He wants us to be a faithful steward with what He has given to us. This can apply to a lot of different things related to our lives. For example, our ministries, our finances, our giftings, etc. Once God has blessed you with something, you can rest assured it’s for a purpose. You can be confident of what God is doing in and through your life.

Never stop making use of God’s investment in your life because of fear. Joshua 1:9 says “Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be dismayed: for the Lord your God is with you wheresoever you go.” Go forth in faith and through the power of the Holy Spirit!
